I have an 18 month old Macbook Pro 13' that won't boot, but instead it just beeps 3 times (a RAM issue). Called APPLE SUPPORT, as I had done in the past as a long time Apple user, and was SHOCKED by the AWFUL customer service. 1 tone repeating every 5 seconds: When you start your Mac, it will automatically run system diagnostics. If you hear this pattern of beeping, it means that the Mac could not find any RAM installed. Either your computer's memory was removed or something is interfering with the system checkup.

Microsoft office 2010 cracked kickass

I just upgraded the RAM in my MacBook Pro (15' 2 GHz Intel Core i7 - early 2011 model) from two 2gb modules to two 4gb modules. Started up just fine and ran great for about 10 minutes. Then the screen froze and the computer started beeping. After some google searches I found that it is caused by either a) bad RAM or b) the RAM is inserted. I tried like 10 times and still got the 3 beeps and nothing else. I have searched up the problem and was told to remove the ram sticks. I tired doing this; removing 1 stick, removing the other stick, removing both sticks, and i still get the 3 beeps on start up and nothing else.

Macbook Pro Beeps 3 Times On Startup

Sometimes you'll turn your Mac on and it'll start beeping in a variety of patterns. Here’s a short list of what each beeping pattern means:

  • 1 tone repeating every 5 seconds:

When you start your Mac, it will automatically run system diagnostics. If you hear this pattern of beeping, it means that the Mac could not find any RAM installed. Either your computer's memory was removed or something is interfering with the system checkup.

  • 3 successive tones followed by a 5-second pause:
Macbook pro beeps 3 times will not boot

This indicates that the Mac found RAM installed, but the memory failed to pass the data integrity check.

Mac three beeps on startup
  • 1 long tone if you hold down the power button:

This indicates that an EFI ROM update is in progress. This only happens on computers manufactured before 2012.

  • A successive sequence of 3 long tones, 3 short tones, 3 long tones, etc.:

This means that your computer has detected an EFI ROM corruption and the computer is in EFI ROM recovery mode. Newer models recover automatically from a corrupted ROM. When this occurs, a progress bar appears on the screen during ROM recovery mode. While on this mode, you should not shut down or disturb the computer in any way until it completes the OS X boot.

For all of the tones on boot up we discuss above, you should look into contacting Apple tech support since they all indicate you’re your computer could be in dire need of maintenance.

User-Induced Tones

You can also cause your Mac to produce tones, usually with certain key combinations. These key combinations will initiate some operation upon start-up. These are a few of those combinations:

  • Shift ⇧

Start up in safe mode.

Macbook Pro Beeps 3 Times Will Not Boot

  • Option ⌥

Launch Startup Manager.

  • C

Start up from a bootable CD, DVD, or USB drives.

  • D

Start to either Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, depending on which Mac you’re using.

  • Option-D

Same above, but it will start these programs via the internet.

  • N

Start up from a compatible NetBoot server.

  • Option-N

Start up from a NetBoot server using the default boot image.

  • Command-R

Start up from OS X Recovery.

  • Command-Option-R

Same as above, but using the internet.

These are some of the commands available at the start up and they will also produce unique sounds too.

It’s always important to know how to differentiate between user induced sounds and system sounds, as they can indicate a hardware or software failure on your Mac.

MacBook Pro :: Beeps Three Times After RAM Upgrade - OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

My Macbook Pro mid 2009 beeps three times after having change the ram from 2x2(4 Gigs) to 2x4(8Gigs) of RAM. Both new RAM modules do not work either together or by themselves. They do however work with an old RAM module, originally to have been found in my MacBook. What I need to do to make both new RAM modules work?!

MacBook :: Working With Some Of The Files On It And It Shut Down My Computer A Couple Times?

Dec 17, 2010

I am having a problem with my external hard drive. I was using it the other day working with some of the files on it and it shut down my computer a couple times. The second time it did this, after the computer shut down, I would turn it on and then it would go right back off until I removed the hard drive and turned it on and it was fine. Now my computer won't recognize the hard drive at all when i plug it in. The light on the hard drive will come on but it will not show up on my computer.

MacBook :: Not Booting Up Instead 3 Beeps?

May 2, 2009

My Black Macbook will not boot up. Instead it rests at the gray screen and does 3 beeps. I have done research and it is supposed to indicate a RAM problem but my RAM [i believe] is fine, I even rechecked the slots and everything. This has happened before but I just rebooted and it worked fine but now it is not. I tried plugging in my Mac into different power outlets and even having it run without being plugged in but it fails to make a difference. I have scheduled a genius appointment and I know my macbook is older than a year so i'm wondering a few things: how can I get them to replace my Macbook, how can i get them to fix the problem [for free] even if my warranty has run out, if they don't replace it [which i heard they should do] what is my best option [buying a new one is outta the question for financial reasons]

MacBook Pro :: Beeps Instead Of Starting Up?

MacBook Pro :: I7 - 3 Beeps On Startup?

Mar 12, 2012

My Macbook Pro battery had run down (it does quite a bit) so I rebooted with the power inserted.
I get a frozen screen saver which is normal, while the progress bar finds it feet back on power.
However this time, I had the frozen screen saver, and a continuous 3 beeps which I've never had before in a loop? I then re-pressed the power switch on the Macbook and it rebooted fine and seems ok.
This i7 is coming up to its first year (which I think is covered by Apple?) and I *think* this maybe a memory issue? If it is, and my Mac is covered, then by a sheer stroke of luck, I decided to get Apple to fit the 8GB memory at the time of purchase (bad I know! and I don't usually do that) BUT that would mean that Apple fitted the memory upgrade and I haven't touched anything myself.
I then booted up this morning with a full battery and the boot up took a lot longer than normal - maybe around 3 minutes on the spinning logo, and then finally booted - are these all worrying signs?

Macbook Pro 3 Beeps On Startup

May 6, 2012

I am coming from a PC world and I am starting to get frustrated with this problem. I have had my Macbook Pro 15in for about a year. It is an early 2011. For the past two months I have been having the 3 beeps on start up. I have been to the genius bar about 6 times already. They have replaced my RAM twice, replaced my logic board and finally replaced my hard drive. It is STILL doing it. I don't know what else I should do. Please any more suggestions the next time I go to the genius bar?

MacBook Pro :: Three Beeps On Startup Even After RAM Replaced?

Feb 27, 2012

I'm working on a Macbook pro 15 A1278 for a friend. They were given the computer by someone who didn't want it. My friend did not have the password to get into the machine and no original system disc. I thought this was going to be an easy case of erase-and-install. So I attempted to boot from my own Snow Leopard DVD, then I started getting three beep errors. Now I can't get as far as the password screen any more. Computer starts with normal chimes, then when it gets to the grey screen with the Apple, I get the 'three beeps'. Bought new ram, put it in, reseated it a bunch of times, still three beeps every time.Attempting to restart using the system DVD by holding the C key, same problem. DVD spins up but then three beeps. Fired the machine up as a target disk and ran disk utility via remote control from another machine, we'll call that one 'machine B'. Hard drive checks out with no errors and is formatted in Extended Journaled. Did a clean system install from machine B (while still in target disk mode). System install was a success and was able to restart machine B successfully from the hard drive of the faulty machine.

MacBook Air :: 3 Beeps Continuously On Restart?

Mar 9, 2012

This morning, when I got into work I restarted my Late-2010 MacBook Air (128 GB HD, 1.86 GHZ Core-2 Duo, OS X 10.7.3) while holding down the 'option' button as I normally do to access bootcamp and load Windows 7 because I need to use Excel Macros during the work day. What was unusual, however, was that it immediately started beeping loudly when I held down the option button and continued to do so without ceasing. It beeped 3 times, stopped, beeped 3 times, stopped etc.
The fans started running pretty quickly and I held down the power button and it finally shut down. I restarted and held down the 'option' key again, booted into Windows 7 fine, and have since rebooted into OS X as well without issue. It's the first time that I've heard this beeping except when I installed a firmware update a few weeks back. I've done a bit of research and it sounds like it's indicative of a RAM issue but want to see if anyone knows for sure. I think it's strange that it did it once but hasn't again despite numerous restarts and also strange that it happened immediately upon hitting the 'option' key when the screen went dark, as I always do.

Mac Three Beeps On Startup

Jun 2, 2012

Macbook Pro Three Beeps Solution

I have a brand new Macbook Pro (Christmas 2011), and today it was installing updates. It stated that it needed to restart to complete the updates, so I confirmed it. It shut down fine, but then didn't start up again on it's own. I waited for about an hour before manually starting the computer by pressing the power button. It did the opening chime and then the logo screen came up, but then it started a series of beeps along with blinking battery light (it is fully charged). It froze on the logo screen and continued to beep for a half an hour before I forced it to shut down (control+command+power button).
I tried restarting it in safe mode (holding the shift button down during startup), but it only resulted in the computer freezing on the logo screen for about five minutes before shutting itself off (no beeping or light that time, though). I went through my instruction manual as well as online searches to see if maybe I could somehow restore the computer to factory settings. I can get it to get into the Disk Utility section (holding down the option button during startup), but I'm absolutely terrified of erasing something I shouldn't.
